Frequently asked questions
What makes a business camera system different from consumer cameras?
Design and support. A business system is placed around real coverage, cabled and powered properly, recorded with retention you can rely on, kept on its own network segment, and maintained by a team you can call. Consumer cameras on the office Wi-Fi look similar until you need footage that was never recorded, or a camera drops offline and there is no one to fix it. We build the version that still works the day something happens.
Do you install the cabling for the cameras, or just the cameras?
Both. Our structured cabling team runs and terminates the cabling the cameras ride on, and each camera is powered over that single cable using PoE. Building the cabling and the camera system together means the drops land exactly where the cameras need them, which is far cleaner and cheaper than adding cabling after the fact.
IP cameras or analog CCTV: which do we need?
Most business systems today are IP cameras, which offer higher resolution, run over your network, and scale cleanly as you add cameras. Older analog CCTV still exists, and in some retrofits we can reuse parts of what is there, but for new work IP cameras are almost always the right call. We design to your site and tell you plainly where reusing existing infrastructure makes sense and where it does not.
How long is footage kept, and where is it recorded?
That is a design decision we make with you. Recording lives on an on-site network video recorder (NVR), in the cloud, or a combination, and retention is set to what your business or industry needs, from a couple of weeks to much longer for regulated environments. We size the storage during design so the footage you need is still there when you go looking for it.
Can we view the cameras remotely?
Yes. You can see live and recorded video from any device, with alerts for the events you care about, and we keep access limited to the people who should have it. Remote viewing is set up as part of the install, not left for you to figure out later.
Do you handle access control and door systems too?
Yes. We integrate card readers, door controllers, and entry systems with the camera system, so entry events and video are one coordinated system. That way you can see who badged in and what the camera recorded at the same moment, rather than stitching two separate systems together.
Are there rules about where we can put cameras in Texas?
Yes, and we design around them. Cameras are generally fine in business and public areas, but not in places with a reasonable expectation of privacy, such as restrooms or changing areas, and recording audio carries stricter consent rules than video. Regulated industries like healthcare add their own requirements. We design a system that respects those lines and recommend you confirm the specifics for your situation with your own counsel.
What does a camera system cost?
